New Develpoment: GP2 ELISA

The GA Generic Assays research and development department could identify in a recent publication GP2 as the major antigen for pancreatic antibodies (PAB) in Crohn’s disease. GP2 is the major membrane glycoproteine of zymogen granule. In this study 42 PAB positive and 31 PAB negative sera of patients with Crohn’s disease as well as sera from patients with ulcerative colitis (n = 49) and healthy blood donors (n = 69) were evaluated. All results revealed a first evidence that GP2 is the autoantigen for PAB’s:

  1. All PAB positive sera showed a significant higher reactivity to GP2 then the other sera.
  2. 66 % of PAB positive sera showed a significant higher IgG reactivity and 43 % of PAB positive sera showed a significant higher IgA reactivity in comparison to PAB negative sera.
  3. GP2 expression was significant higher in biopsy samples from patients with Crohn’s disease in comparison with samples from patients with ulcerative colitis.

A running multicenter study will confirm GP2 as a potential marker for differential diagnosis between Crohn’s diease and ulcerative colitis as well as a parameter for follow up.

GA Generic Assay will launch GP2 ELISA soon.
